About our School - A History of Fine Tradition and Learning

Gordon Middle School reached the pinnacle of educational recognition in 1993 when it was selected as a Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education's National Secondary School Recognition Program. The school was honored for its excellence in the fall of 1993 by President Clinton at the White House.

The national honor gave Gordon the distinction of being recognized as one of the top 208 secondary schools in the country from thousands of applicants. The rigorous judging by educational leaders focused on many critical aspects of education at Gordon during a three-day review process. The review focused on 45 different categories at Gordon, from school climate to curriculum and extracurricular activities as well as parent and community involvement. Also that year Gordon was named a Blue Ribbon Award winner by the state of Pennsylvania. That same standard of excellence is a goal of Gordon Middle School every year and every day.
